An Old Testament Theology for Your Library!

Like most Christians, whether clergy or laity, I don’t have a good grasp of Old Testament Theology.  I’m woefully bad on the Old Testament.  Well, after a few references to Bruce Waltke’s An Old Testament Theology in blogosphere and a lecture I listened recently, I think I’m going to invest in his theology.

Dr. Bruce K. Waltke is a preeminent Old Testament scholar.  I’ll sure be sitting at his feet on Old Testament Theology sometime this year. :-)

I actually have this volume on my self beside Thielman’s NT theology. I’m taking an Old Testament class along side of Hebrew this fall, so I’m hoping to read through some of this as well to supplement.

I have Thielman’s NT theology. Do you know if they were meant to go together? Thielman is quite good by the way.

  3. Bryan says:

Well- not sure if they were meant to go together, but Zondervan sure did a heck of a job making it look like it.

  4. tc robinson says:

Well, it appears that way with Old Testament Introduction and New Testament Introduction, Tremper Longman, et al, and Carson, et al, respectively.

  5. Martin says:

    TC,

Thanks, I have put it on my “to buy” list.

    Martin.

  6. tc robinson says:

Martin, I went ahead and ordered it. :-)

  7. Stan McCullars says:

TC, it’s still on your Wish List.

How are we to make informed decisions regarding Christmas shopping if you don’t keep your list updated? Only five months and four days until Christmas. ;)

  8. tc robinson says:

Thanks. I took it off. Yeah, Christmas is just around the corner. We’ll see! :-)

  9. I had this on my to buy list but Esteban found a great deal on Gerhard von Rad’s Old Testament Theology for $10 (it’s still there!) and he and some others on his blog said it’s great so I went ahead and got it. It will be quite a while before I read it though.

    See the comments here.

I’m not necessarily recommending it, just letting you know about it.

And if anyone has a comparison please write about it.
    Jeff

  10. tc robinson says:

Thanks for the link, Jeff. Though dated, I believe the price will allow me to get it. I’m sure I’ll find something worthwhile in it.

  11. Brian says:

Well, Waltke learned from von Rad so there may be some similarites… I have Waltke and it is massive but looks good!

I have G.E. Ladd’s NT Theology but need a complement to it which should it be? Thielman or Marshall?

  12. tc robinson says:

    Get both!

    Thielman for now, I say.

Thomas R. Schreiner’s latest is good.
