“The First President of Europe”: Belgium In Dispensational Eschatology?

According to Dispensational Premillennialism, the anti-Christ would hail from Europe.  He would become leader of the world in times of crises.

What better time?

But I doubt it:

Brussels, Belgium (CNN) — Belgium’s prime minister, Herman Van Rompuy, has been appointed the first “president of Europe,” British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Thursday.  full article…

This should give Bible Prophecy “experts” something to write about.

In the LEFT BEHIND books they make it a point to have their fictional Antichrist come from a “nowhere” small country w/ no real political influence. Thus, suggesting the Antichrist may copy Jesus’ humble origins.

2012 was a fun movie. Turn off your brain. Find the biggest screen you can. (IMAX preferred.) And enjoy the roller-coaster ride. They need to turn this movie into a ride at Universal Studios Theme Parks!

    R,
I saw the movie and the character was European, if I’m not mistaken.

    TCR,

According to NASA in 2012 the Earth will not end. :)

The fictional Antichrist in LEFT BEHIND is from Romania. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolae_Carpathia

    R,
    We never know.

Thanks for the link. Yep! Central Europe.

  5. Gary Zimmerli says:

So how come they didn’t unanimously make Obama their president? ;-)

  6. T.C. R says:

    Gary,
He doesn’t fit the prophecy mold. ;-)

  7. Jake says:

Today (minister’s daughter at my church): “So my dad says the guy that was just elected the First President of Europe is going to be the next anti-Christ or something because he fits into the Biblical prophecies.”

I thought of this blog post.

  8. T.C. R says:

    Jake,
I’m not surprised at all. In fact, it would be surprising if no one made such a connection.

  9. Bryon says:

The idea that an end-or-world antichrist is coming I believe is fiction. I no longer believe it can be scripturally supported. I would welcome friendly challenges to this…

  10. Bonnie says:

Speaking of end things, I ran into an article on dispensationalism’s history that almost glued me to the statements! If anyone is into such history, the article is “Edward Irving is Unnerving” and I found it on the Nov. edition of “OUR DAILY BREAD” edited by L. A. media figure Joe Ortiz. It is packed with data that will make a person either glad or sad or maybe mad. See it for yourself. Bonnie

  11. Peter Kirk says:

Well, the link between the presidency of Europe and the Antichrist is hardly a new one. I made it myself, tongue in cheek and with no claim to originality, more than two years ago. Was my prophecy a false one because the candidate I named back then has not got the job? Or perhaps he will get it later – maybe only after five other presidents have given up the job in rapid succession. We’ll see. But somehow van Rompuy seems an unlikely candidate for the Antichrist. Blair would fit the bill much better.

  12. T.C. R says:

    Peter,
Cool humor, but it’s all conjecture, esp. if you’re so eschatologically disposed.

Yep, Blair is more likely. He’s Brit! ;-)
